Municipal Revenue Stamps
Whether it be cigarettes, liquor, documents (for notary services rendered, I presume) or deed transfers, local and municipal governments tax a mind-boggling variety of goods and services. Here is an extremely large collection of taxations stamps collected in one place, which just proves my suspicion that there is quite literally nothing printed, written, or fabricated that is not collected by someone...

Lincoln Highway Digital Image Collection Home
Dreams of the open road before there was an open road.
The Library at the University of Michigan hosts a vast digital image archive of the Lincoln Highway Association which ...was made up of representatives from the automobile, tire, and cement industries, with the goal of planning, funding, constructing, and promoting the first transcontinental highway in North America. Spend a while browsing this depository and you can't help but come away with a profound respect for this nation's geographical vastness and a (perhaps grudging) admiration for the men who sought to conquer it, one mile of 2-lane blacktop at a time...

UFA-Stars
From its founding (1917) until its dissolution (in 1942), UFA was Germany's (and arguably Europe's) most important film studio. Often castigated for its role in generating Nazi films in the inter-war period (by 1933, the National Socialists had taken effective control of the studio and made it an important party propaganda arm), the studio also groomed such luminaries as Greta Garbo, Fritz Lang, and Peter Lorre--all of whom eventually went on to Hollywood (either by choice or to escape rising persecution) and into American cinematic history.
On that note, here is a rather nice collection of Signed UFA actors photocards for your perusal...

Very Small Objects: A New Taxonomy
A new classification system for that ubiquitous entity: the very small object. Why?

UPDATE: Upon further review, I've determined this website is neither parodic nor "scientific" in the classical sernse; rather, it appears to be the offshoot of an art installation...
